Happy New Year

Rather a prosaic subject heading I know, but it's my first day back after one of the most perfect holidays of my life...

I left a big bundle of Christmas blues on the wrought iron chairs in the kitchen, and when I got back yesterday, it was nowhere to be found.
Many things ended that day I packed up my little life in Wray Av and moved to Hampton Road...not only the obvious move and change of scenery but even that crazy and brief adventure. A drunk phonecall made me realise that it really was just an adventure, a short dizzying spell of exciting insanity that was infinitely human and not as celestial as I had described it to myself. It helped me let go a little bit, it helped the picture fade.
The 23rd was a particularly difficult day for me. Fuck knows why, but the Christmas inner loneliness and self loathing came to nest with a vengeance...Organising the trip to Busso and beyond was an absolute pleasure with Sandy and Paul's help and buying presents for the girls was a high point for me.
Mum's accident so far away also made me acutely aware of the curse of distance but i have been literally amazed at how upbeat and spirited she is.

G and I exchanged presents on Monument Hill on the 23rd and it helped my mood a little, knowing that at least that part was behind me. His presents, as always, were wonderful. Luckiest girl in the world is me.

We took the bus down to Busso on Saturday 24th and Shane (and from hereforward "Uncle Shane") picked us up in the orange combi...he and Elise put us up for the entire time we were in Busselton and were a massive help with preparations for the Cape to Cape.
Christmas Eve was spent with the Mamo's - eating a wonderful dinner and drinking and talking, and watching Sandy devour the carrot left out for Santa and his reindeer by the girls and spitting bits of it on the ground...untidy reindeer.

Christmas Day dawned bright and truly Australian. There were presents all round and the girls liked what I had bought...we got presents too. There was swimming at the beach, a huge and delicious lunch stretching into the lazy afternoon and a lazy leftover dinner...just wonderful.

On boxing day we slept copiously and did a little shopping and packing for our assault on the Cape to Cape which we were starting at Yallingup the next day...and there I shall leave it, because I'm supposed to be filing but I will continue with a detailed trip write up soon.
